How to Spend Less Money

Would you like to know how to spend less money?

Silly question, I know. Everyone wants to be able to pay less for what they buy, but paying less is only one of the strategies you can use to reduce your spending.

Prioritize Your Spending

Spend Less Money
The first one is to prioritize your spending.

To do this, you need to have a good idea of where your money actually goes.

Once you have a list of your regular expenditures you can re-order them in order of importance.

Some of your spending relates to necessities, items like housing, food, basic clothing and utilities must be paid for and should be at the top of your list.

It is the other items on the list that give you some flexibility and the potential to spend less money!

I suggest that you go through each item you have listed that is not a necessity, and honestly review you reasons for spending that money. Are they expenses that you really need to make - do they save you in other ways, for example paying someone else to mow your lawn may free up your time to do other things.

While you are going through your list, try to keep in mind what your priorites are, both financially and in terms of your lifestyle. Sometimes you will be faced with a choice between spending less money and giving up one of your other priorites like spending time with your family, or missing out on an activity that helps you to unwind at the end of a long week!

Before you make the decision to spend less on non-essential items, ask yourself if there is a cheaper alternative. Could you pay your kids to mow the lawn instead or maybe you could make it a family activity to clean up the yard. Instead of going to a fitness centre for yoga classes, check out what is on offer by local community organizations.

Depending on your financial situation, you may have some hard decisions to make.

Buy in Bulk or Wholesale

How about buying in bulk or buying larger quantities when items that you purchase on a regular basis is on sale? I tend to do this, particularly with grocery items.

Buying direct from the manufacturer or a wholesaler is another way to save money, and what about buying on-line? Using the internet is convenient way to shop around and compare prices before you make your purchase. Definitely cheaper than driving from one shopping center to another!
